Applying "The Secret" for Motivation

I’m sure by now that many of you have heard about the new age self-help book, "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne. The basic premise of the book is about learning to apply the laws of attraction. In other words, attracting more of what you want and less of what you don’t. Although I was less than impressed by a book that landed on the best seller list and created such a buzz, I did want to share with you some of the ideas and principles surrounding its ideology. Moving ahead, there is no reason that we cannot begin right now with a wonderful new outlook.

First and foremost, "The Secret" talks a lot about inspired action. It suggests that if you can feel as though you have something now, such as health, vitality, strength, and self-worth, then your motivation to get fit will be an inspired action. It will be effortless. In other words, if you are trying to reach your fitness goals despite negative feelings, such as going to the gym or eating right because it is what you are supposed to do, rather than feeling that it IS in fact who you are and what you are about, you will struggle. According to "The Secret," you must imagine that your already ARE the person you want to become. You already ARE fit and disciplined about fitness and your diet. "Feel" the benefits of the healthy lifestyle before you ever achieve it, and you will achieve.

The basic law of attraction teaches that like attracts like. If you feel down, unmotivated and discouraged, you will always feel that way. However, if you can be positive and truly "feel" the benefits of health, love, and self-worth, you will attract that. Those good feelings will create the motivation you need to manifest your desires, whether they involve your health, your finances, your personal relationships or whatever they may be. Negative thought begets more negative thought, and you end up in a downward spiral. The moment that you change those negative thoughts into positive thoughts, you will become inspired to take action, and those actions will achieve the true desires of your heart.

So, what is it that you want? Make a list of what you are grateful for, and what it is you truly want in life. Make those desires the focus of your existence, and you will lead a hopeful life of gratitude and ambition. Manifest your destiny by first being in your mind. For me, I want to have a fit body, a fit mind (constantly challenged and learning), a true self-worth, and great personal relationships. I want to be financially stable and significant in God’s plan. I believe that I am, and I believe that I have all of those things. Believing has helped me get this far and continuing to believe will create new opportunities to enhance my life every day. My goal is to feel unstoppable when it comes to achieving the desires of my heart.

"The Secret," although not a step by step instruction guide to enhancing your life, does address the need for the proper mind set. For me personally, I see it as simply to quit wanting what I don’t have and instead having what I want!

Refocus! Quit dwelling on the fact that someone has a better job, relationship or physique. Instead, focus on achieving small victories toward what truly makes you happy. Work out one day at a time. Give up the sodas and actually make a plan for eating. You can do this! We can all do this!

Applying the principle of the secret to your body:

Ask:

Be clear on the vision that you have and want for yourself. Use an old picture or other pictures and refer to them often.

Believe:

See yourself in your perfect body right now. Seek out, admire and surround yourself with those people that you believe to be at their "perfect weight." Remember, like attracts like.

Receive:

You must feel good about your body NOW. You will never attract your perfect weight if you are filled with negative thoughts.

How long will it take? Remember to imagine it NOW. Imagine you ARE what you want to be. Therefore, what you want currently exists. If you live that way and treat your weight that way, there is no telling how fast you will physically see your perfect weight. If you start small because that is your comfort zone, you will attract small, and that’s okay but don’t expect big changes. Just remember that your thoughts will determine your success.

Two quotes that I found in the book and that really grabbed me:

"Desire connects you with the thing desired, and expectation draws it into your life." (Bob Proctor, "The Secret.") Expect the things you want, like being in shape, and don’t expect the things you don’t want, like failing.

"Whatever we think about and THANK about, we bring about." (Dr. John Demartini, "The Secret.") Gratitude brings more to your life to be thankful about.

Best wishes in reaching all of your goals! Let this year be YOUR year!
